Affirmations Can Change Your Life

Affirmations are positive statements that can help you to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. When you repeat them often, and believe in them, you can start to make positive changes.

You might consider affirmations to be unrealistic "wishful thinking." But try looking at positive affirmations this way: many of us do repetitive exercises to improve our physical health, and affirmations are like exercises for our mind and outlook. These positive mental repetitions can reprogram our thinking patterns so that, over time, we begin to think – and act – differently.

Change is the only constant in life. Even the seasons change. As the seasons change, so do some trees. These trees grow new leaves in spring, and lose them in the fall. Just like the trees experience change with the seasons, so do I. There are different seasons of life. I accept change. It is something that none of us can escape. It is a given. It is as sure as death and taxes, but one thing about it is very different – I choose to see change as a positive thing in my life. Not to do so means stagnation. Change means that I am alive, and I am experiencing life. My attitude is most important to handling change. When change happens, it may not feel positive initially. However, I believe that there is always a good reason that things happen. That is why when change happens, I always find the positive things about the situation. In fact, I embrace change. Sometimes, I do not wait for change to come to me. Instead, I make change happen. I do not allow it to cause me anxiety. I accept that change is part of life, and it can be exciting. Without change, life becomes boring. Change keeps my life interesting, free of monotony, and full of new adventures. That is why I welcome it with open arms. I love it. It gives me a reason to get up in the morning. By accepting change and what comes with it, I use my energy for positive things. Change is the only constant in life, and I accept the good things that come from change.

Self-reflection questions:

  1. What are some examples of change that initially caused me anxiety in the past, but ended up being positive things in my life in the end?
  2. What kinds of positive things have I experienced in my life that were due to change?
  3. When change happens, how can I welcome it with open arms?
